Discover the joy and beauty of classical Egyptian Belly Dance! It is a gentile low impact form of dance that gently tones, strengthens and stretches the body. One can be any age shape or size to learn it and it is allot of fun!
This class is equally a dance and a workout.
Come as you are — any age, any fitness level. Whether you’re here to move your body in a joyful, healthy way with no pressure to perform, or you want to take the dance further, you’ll leave with a solid foundation either way.
The circular movements lubricate the joints, release deep muscular tension, and calm the nervous system through continuous, low-impact paths of motion. And moving mindfully to music does its own work: lowering stress hormones, supporting brain plasticity, and opening up emotional expression through the pairing of sound and motion.
ABOUT LORRAINE:
Lorraine has been a professional Egyptian-style belly dancer since 1984, performing worldwide under the stage name Jalilah at venues of every kind. From 1984 to 1996, she made repeated trips to Egypt to study with master teachers and refine her craft.
Her years of collaborating with live musicians led her to produce a series of seven belly dance music CDs, Jalilah’s Raks Sharki, for the Berlin-based label Piranha — a series still held in high regard by dancers around the world.
In 1996, Lorraine’s focus shifted toward teaching, with a mission of healing through movement and a strong emphasis on proper alignment and safe, healthy technique. She certified with Coredynamics Pilates in 2003 and began weaving that knowledge of body mechanics, posture, breath, and therapeutic movement into her belly dance instruction — while her dance background brings flow and artistry to her Pilates classes.
The result is a teaching style that’s truly multi-dimensional: artistic, culturally rich, uplifting, and always a fun, safe, and healthy workout. Lorraine has also been a certified Essentrics instructor since 2020.
